Salsa Course Levels

Basic

We start with the Basic class where the student learns the fundamental rhythm of the music and how to dance with a partner. We teach variations, simple turns, the Open Break and the Cross Body Lead. Students work on each new move with a variety of partners, practicing one thing at a time while constantly building skills. We recommend the Basic course even if the student has been dancing for a while but is unsure of these basic steps. This course insures a good, strong foundation in the dance.

Pre-Intermediate

After one month of Basic, students move on to the Pre-Intermediate courses. Pre-Intermediate consists of four sections. They may be taken in any order as long as all four of them are completed before moving on to the Intermediate level. Each section of Pre-Intermediate contains different material, allowing the student to learn many new steps and improve his/her dancing skills.

Intermediate

Intermediate level then builds on all the vocabulary and technique that students learn in Basic and Pre-Intermediate and begins to work on Salsa “con sabor” (with flavor)! Intermediate also consists of four sections, each one full of exciting club-style steps and patterns.

Advanced

After completing all four sections of Intermediate, students move into the Advanced classes, having mastered lower-level material to be able to progress to more difficult and challenging steps. The Advanced level classes are on-going and a student may stay with them as long as desired, enlarging vocabulary and refining technique.

More

We also offer several All Levels classes, open to dancers of all experience levels, to enable the student to learn more and to fully round out the Latin dance experience. Our popular Bachata/Merengue and Zouk/Lambada courses introduce these dances which are often played in the Latin clubs as part of an evening of Salsa dancing. To put a little “caliente” in your dancing, we offer Women’s Styling as well as a Salsa Timing & Technique course.
