
Carlos Duarte de Chey
Argentine Tango Dancer, Choreographer and Master Teacher from Buenos Aires.
Born and raised in Villa Urquiza, Buenos Aires, Carlos’s lifetime relationship with Tango music and dance began early. His parents took him to the milongas in Villa Urquiza as a child.
Carlos started going to the milongas as an amateur dancer, learning from the milongueros and master teachers Carlos Gavito, Turco Suaya, Eduardo Arquimbao, Nito Garcia, Gustavo Naveira and others. In 1993, he started teaching across the USA and Europe (New York City, Washington D.C., Philadelphia, Los Angeles, Maine, Hawaii, Montreal, Barcelona, Amsterdam and other cities) as well in Buenos Aires. Carlos has dedicated students from every corner of the world. Whether they are in the U.S. or B.A., they are still taking classes with him.
Currently, he is teaching group and private classes at the Sandra Cameron Dance Center in New York City, and when in Buenos Aires, at Saverio Studios. Carlos is the creator and organizer of La Milonga de Gardel, one of the biggest milongas in the U.S. Carlos has performed at Lincoln Center and the American Ballroom Theater in New York City, as well as in Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Buenos Aires, Hawaii, Montreal, Barcelona, etc. His credits also include Tango choreographer for Peter and Wendy (at the New Victory Theatre, NYC) and Ecco Porco, in collaboration with director, Lee Breuer. He was mentioned in Vogue Magazine, May 2006.
Carlos Duarte de Chey dances an elegant and classic style that is a combination of Golden Era and modern Tango, with a keen focus on maintaining the essence of the dance.
